Student Drop-off and Pickup
Each school in Shoreline School District has one or more designated zones for students to be dropped off and to be picked up.
It's important that all drivers follow the school's instructions. Dropping off and picking up in the right spot helps ensure:
- Student safety
- Efficiency for drivers
- Supervision of students by staff and/or student safety patrol assistance
- Maneuverability for buses that can weigh up to 18 tons and be up to 40 feet long
- Access for buses that operate specialized equipment such as wheelchair lifts
While there may be parking lots or lanes that look empty and it's tempting to pull in and let a student out, doing so can delay access for students who need this space to access the building safely, and it could lead to your car and others' being blocked in by school buses.
Please, for the safety of students, drivers, and pedestrians, do not drop off or pick up students at the side of the road near the school. This is unsafe and can back up traffic for others who are trying to smoothly get to and from the designated pickup and drop-off zones.
