Special Education Transportation

To assure your child’s safety and well-being please carefully review the Operating Standards & Procedures for special education students’ bus stops. These procedures are necessary to help our department accommodate students who require specialized transportation with a safe, timely, and efficient ride to and from school. We would like to provide ample time for parents/guardians to understand the policy, make necessary arrangements if needed, and communicate with Transportation should any questions arise. These operating standards and procedures are imperative for the appropriate and safe transportation of your child.

The Transportation Department will contact the parent/guardian with their student’s bus stop information and pick up/ drop off times. We will attempt to provide door-to-door pick up/drop-off stops for all Special Education students, but depending on the location of your home you may have to walk a short distance to the bus stop location. Please notify the Transportation Department of any change to your students’ transportation plan. Any changes or additions require a minimum of four (4) school days for the change to be implemented. This would include changes in daycare accommodations and address changes for pick up or drop off locations. Changes or additions received after 1pm will start processing on the following school day.  In addition, it is important to please notify us immediately of any phone numbers that have changed. You may submit this information to Transportation by calling 206.393.4277 or Email.

To assist with the providing a safe ride to school, mobility aides may ride along on buses where the Director of Student Services has decided that the medical needs of the students require additional assistance. If you have a question about your student and their individual needs, please contact the Transportation Department.

For the safety of our students, drivers are not authorized to drop off Special Education children without a parent/guardian or designee; who has been pre-authorized by the parent in writing to receive them at their bus stop. Older siblings and other identified adults can be authorized as a designee. Due to road conditions of routes, drop-off times can vary slightly from day to day, so please be at your student’s bus stop five (5) minutes prior to scheduled drop off time. Students who are not met will be returned to their school.

To authorize an adult to receive your student off of the school bus or for 1st-12th grade students authorize them to be released without an adult, please complete the Permission to Release Form. Please notify the Transportation Department of any change to your student’s transportation plan. Any change requires a minimum of three (4) school days for the change to be implemented. This would include changes in daycare accommodations and address changes for pick up or drop off locations. You may submit this information to Transportation using the Transportation Request Form. In addition, it is important to please notify us immediately of any phone numbers that have changed.

Please remember that students are required to be at their bus stop five minutes prior to the scheduled bus arrival time.

Thank you,
