Internship Opportunities
Student Teachers and Internships
Securing a student teaching placement or internship in the Shoreline School District is an exciting opportunity to apply your knowledge and skills in a real-world setting and an important step in your journey to becoming a future educator.
Shoreline Schools is committed to offering the highest quality practicum, student teaching and/or internship experience, one that helps you gain confidence in working with students, staff and parents while partnered with an exceptional cooperating teacher/mentor.
Current University Partnerships
As a small district, Shoreline’s capacity to accept placement requests is limited to the following programs with which we have Affiliation Agreements:
Western Washington University
Seattle University
Seattle Pacific University
University of Washington
University of Washington, Bothell
Central Washington University
Washington State University
Additional options available to district employees ONLY:
City University (WA State)
Western Governors University (WGU)
Centralized Placement Request Process
Per district policy, requests for internship/student teaching placements are to be initiated by university field placement supervisors/coordinators, not by contacting a teacher or principal directly.
All requests should be directed to internships@ssd412.org and must provide:
• Student’s name,
• area of endorsement and/or grade level of interest**,
• placement duration and hours required each quarter/semester,
• student’s resume,
• any course overview or mentor handbook,
• specific school or mentor request,
• proof of fingerprint clearance (via OSPI database).
** If student is pursuing dual endorsement, both areas of endorsement and duration of time required in each classroom and/or with additional mentor must be included in the initial request.
Upon receipt, Shoreline’s district coordinator will work with building principals to determine if appropriate placement options are available.
Requests for upcoming school year placements must be received by May 1st of the previous school year. Requests made for the current school year will be considered only on a case-by-case basis.

District Parent/Guardian requesting internship opportunities
Shoreline values our parents/volunteers/community support and we are happy to provide opportunities for student teaching or internships when we are able. We accept requests for placements from the affiliated programs previously mentioned (WWU, WSU, CWU, SPU Seattle U, UW and UWB).
Parents/guardians may not teach in their children’s classroom and are encouraged to seek opportunities outside of their family’s school.
Short Term Observation Candidates
Some educator preparation programs require students to complete observations or volunteer in classrooms prior to applying to a certification program or in the very early stages of their program once accepted. Short Term Observations may be requested and arranged at the school buildings and candidates will be required to complete the Volunteer Application. Once an observation candidate completes the volunteer application and is cleared through a Washington State Patrol background check, the candidate may schedule the observation directly with a cooperating teacher.
