One-Year Supplemental Levy for Educational Programs & Operations
Fast Facts for Voters
Shoreline School District is proposing a one-year supplemental levy for collection in 2026 to support and help maintain educational programs and services not fully funded by state or federal sources.
Key Points:
- One-year supplemental levy
- $7.25 million collection in calendar year 2026
- 2026 supplemental levy collections happen over two budget years
- Helps maintain current programs and services not fully funded by state or federal sources
- Voters who live in Shoreline and Lake Forest Park are eligible to vote
- Passes with a simple majority of votes (>50%)
This supplemental levy would apply during the final year of the district’s current four-year Educational Programs and Operations levy, which passed in 2022 for collections in 2023-2026.
All registered voters residing in Shoreline and Lake Forest Park are eligible to vote.
Election Date: August 5, 2025
What the Supplemental Levy Would Support and Help Maintain
The levy would help to maintain services and programs not fully funded by the state, such as:
Daily operations:
- Instructional and support staff
- Student transportation
School programs:
- Highly capable
- Multilingual learner
Student opportunities:
- Middle and high school athletics
- Extracurricular activities
Total Taxes for Local Education
Owners of property in Shoreline School District contribute to local education funding with a portion of their property taxes.
This funding for local schools goes toward both bonds and levies.
If the supplemental levy passes, the total Shoreline School District tax rate in 2026 will be $3.13 per $1,000 of assessed property value—lower than the $3.21 per $1,000 rate homeowners are paying in 2025.
Decreasing bond debt in 2026 means lower taxes for property owners.
Increasing housing development in Shoreline and Lake Forest Park means that the total taxes collected by Shoreline School District are dispersed across more property owners.
The result?
A lower tax rate paid by all for local schools.
Supplemental Levy Impact to Property Owners
The supplemental levy would add 34¢ per $1,000 of assessed home value.
However, tax rates paid by property owners in Shoreline and Lake Forest Park for local education are expected to go down in 2026, even if the supplemental levy passes.
Home Value | 2025 Taxes | 2026 Taxes with Supplemental Levy |
---|---|---|
$750K | $2,408 | $2,348 |
$1.0M | $3,210 | $3,130 |
$1.5M | $4,815 | $4,695 |
The table illustrates the 2025 vs. 2026 taxes for sample assessed home values. Although estimated tax rates will decrease, the assessed values of homes can still go up or down, which may affect the total amount of taxes owed.
