Superintendent Reyes Welcomes Shoreline Schools Students, Staff, and Families Back to School

Dear Shoreline Schools Families and Students,

I want to extend a warm welcome to our students, staff, and families as we enter the 2023-24 school year. Entering my third year as your Superintendent, I am filled with appreciation and continued excitement for this work. When I was the age of our youngest learners, I could not have imagined how wonderful and rewarding my future career would be. My early experiences could not have foretold that one day I would get to be of service to you. What an incredible honor it is to live and work in our community.

As we begin the new school year, I acknowledge that we are continuing to work on addressing our budget challenge. Over the past year, we have worked hard to balance the need to achieve financial stability with the importance of providing high-quality learning experiences for students. We will continue this work together in collaboration with our employee groups, students, families, and community.

I also want to express my ongoing commitment to our schools and community to be with you as we continue on this journey. As we do this, I often focus on what helps me stay centered and grounded: thoughts of gratitude, hope, and togetherness

Gratitude: I am grateful for the moments of great wonder and discovery our students experience throughout their school days,  for the laughter and the energy that our staff and students share on a daily basis, and for the robust and never-ending support of our families and community.

Hope: I feel immensely hopeful and confident that we will move successfully through our current budget difficulties. We do this by honoring each other; creating a sense of belonging for our students, families, and staff; and being our best selves in the midst of our challenging financial situation.

Togetherness: We are better and stronger together. Throughout the year, we will have opportunities to come together in our schools and in our community. We will share experiences through the many traditions that make our school district special and wonderful.Your input, ideas, and feedback are invaluable as we work together to navigate these challenges.

With gratitude, hope, and coming together in a spirit of collaboration and support for each other, we will make this a wonderful school year.  Thank you for the opportunity to serve you and your children. I am honored to live and work in our community.

Sincerely,
