Chhoun Mey Selected as Director of Equitable Leadership, Pedagogy, and Family Engagement
Chhoun Mey has been selected to serve as Director of Equitable Leadership, Pedagogy and Family Engagement, pending school board approval, Superintendent Susana Reyes announced.
Chhoun is currently serving as Co-Principal at Clyde Hill Elementary in Bellevue School District. Prior to his current role, Chhoun served as Principal for Wilburton Elementary and previous to this, was Assistant Principal at Phantom Lake Elementary, also in Bellevue School District. Chhoun has taught 4th, 5th, and 6th grades, including two years at IB World School in Cambodia. He has served on Bellevue's Equity Advisory Group and was the facilitator for the Asian American Pacific Islander Team. Chhoun has served as Instructional Technology Curriculum Leader and Robotics Club and STEM Night Director, and he has led district-wide and school-wide professional development. Chhoun's experience includes leading the development of school systems focused on special education inclusion, culturally responsive instruction, and Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).
Chhoun has an Administration Certificate from University of Washington (UW) Danforth Educational Leadership Program, an M.Ed from UW Bothell, and a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary arts and sciences from UW Bothell. He is also a National Board Certified Teacher.
“I am passionate about building inclusive communities that center our full humanity and that allow us to authentically partner with students, families, and staff toward creating a better tomorrow,” shares Chhoun. “I enjoy reading, spending time with my friends and family, and traveling. I have a 3-year-old in preschool and a 9-year-old in 3rd grade, and our family enjoys taking walks, playing games, and laughing as much as we can together.”

Chhoun’s diverse experience in education and demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion are sure to be assets to our community.”
Chhoun Mey’s first name has two syllables and is pronounced, phonetically: Chu-en.
