Tide to Tradition
Native Education Program for Shoreline School District
Shoreline School District established a Title VI program for Native American students in 2024. Our program is named Tide to Tradition: Native Education Program for Shoreline School District.
You may participate if you, your child, or their grandparent is:
- An enrolled member of an American Indian tribe, band, or group
- An enrolled member of an Alaska Native tribe
- If you, your child, or your grandparent have a Certificate of Indian Blood (CIB)
- Or if, during school registration documents, the family wrote down that their student/students have Native heritage
The Title VI program supports American Indian and Alaska Native students in meeting and exceeding state academic and cultural standards.
The goals of our Title VI program for the 2024-25 school year are:
- Help establish and nurture connections for tribal students and families
- Bring culturally grounded academic support and tutoring
- Cultural Connection Activities
- Native Advisory Committee for both parents and students

*Food will be provided on the evenings with both a Cultural Evening and mentoring.
Other Events
Our goal for the 2024-25 school year is to arrange a group trip to the Burke Museum, to attend the First Nations @ UW Powwow in April, and to go on a nature hike at Snoqualmie Falls.

Title VI Indian Education Program
The US Department of Education Indian Education Formula Grant program is designed to address the unique cultural, language, and educationally related academic needs of American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) students, including preschool children, who are:
- A member of an Indian tribe or band, as membership is defined by the Indian tribe or band, including any tribe or band terminated since 1940, and any tribe or band recognized by the State in which the tribe or band resides;
- A descendant of a parent or grandparent who meets the requirements described in paragraph of this definition;
- Considered by the Secretary of the Interior to be an Indian for any purpose;
- An Eskimo, Aleut, or other Alaska Native; or
- A member of an organized Indian group that received a grant under the Indian Education Act of 1988 as it was in effect on October 19, 1994.
