Identification

• Shoreline will screen all kindergarten students in the winter reviewing multiple criteria including state testing, district-required classroom-based assessments and teacher feedback. The CogAT Screener is no longer being used as one of the data points for identification.
• Families will be notified via Parent Square of their student's eligibility for enrichment services at the end of winter quarter.
• Students determined eligible for services will participate in the Primary Enrichment Program (PEP) in the spring of the current school year.
• Enrichment services will continue through the end of first grade. 

• Shoreline will screen all 1st grade students using the CogAT Screener in the fall/early winter during the school day in your student's classroom.
• Shoreline will screen all 3rd and 5th grade students in the winter by reviewing multiple criteria including state testing, district-required classroom-based assessments as well as any previous year data on file. 
• Students who meet the screening threshold will be invited to participate in further assessment via Parent Square in Dec./Jan.
• Testing will take place during the school day at your student's home school.  Testing days are scheduled based on school schedules.  Please check with your student's school for testing dates.
• Students must have parental/guardian consent to participate in assessment.
• Students determined eligible for the Highly Capable Program may begin receiving services in the fall of the following school year.

• Registration for Opt-in HiCap Screening will be sent out via Parent Square during the fall quarter to all students is Grades 2, 4 & 6-8.
• All registered students will be screened by a district Multidisciplinary Placement Committee (MDPC)  to determine if further testing is needed.
• Students who meet the screening threshold will be invited to participate in further assessment in January/February.
• Students determined eligible for the Highly Capable Program will begin services in the fall of the proceeding school year.

• Eligibility opportunity in summer and early fall for NEW SHORELINE STUDENTS ONLY who have not already been screened or tested for highly capable services for the current school year.
• Students determined eligible for the Primary Enrichment Program (PEP)  or Highly Capable Program will begin services in the fall. 
• Private School Students who live within the Shoreline District boundaries can register for our summer testing session only. Registration information will be posted under the Announcements of the Highly Capable Website early spring.
• Results will be provided in August unless otherwise noted.

Any staff member, student or community member may refer a Shoreline student for hi-cap evaluation by completing this online Referral Form. 

Families of students who are referred will be notified and invited to provide consent for assessment via Parent Square.

All Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd and 5th grade students are screened for possible  identification and services  Therefore,  referrals will only be accepted for Grades 2nd, 4th or 6th-8th students.
