K-5: The adopted literacy curriculum for Kindergarten is Superkids published by Zaner-Bloser. The adopted literacy curriculum for 1st through 5th grade is Reading Wonders, published by McGraw-Hill. Being a Writer by Collaborative Classroom is an adopted writing curriculum for K-5th grades.

6-12: In 2011, Washington formally adopted the Learning Standards (Common Core State Standards) for English Language Arts (ELA). The Washington Learning Standards for ELA provide a rich depth of knowledge and skills that students will need to succeed in technical school, college, careers, and life. The standards are vital to ensuring our students can be successful in their communities and global society.

Elementary Literacy Curriculum Preview Spring 2026

As part of our process to review and select new elementary literacy instructional materials, we recently hosted a Curriculum Preview Night on March 24, 2026. The presentation materials are available here.

The materials under consideration are designed to strengthen reading and writing instruction by providing students with engaging, content-rich texts and opportunities to build knowledge, develop vocabulary, and write in response to what they read.

Materials are available for review at the Shoreline Center:

Instruction Building foyer
18560 1st Ave. NE
Shoreline, WA 98155

Materials may be viewed during regular business hours, and families are welcome to provide feedback as part of the ongoing review process. Paper forms and a digital form are available with the materials.
